I was at this cramped house party that felt like a mix between my college apartment and my current office breakroom. I was trying to find my jacket to leave, but every door led to another crowded hallway. Then this guy from my old marketing job—someone I barely talked to back then, though he looked a little like a barista from my neighborhood too—pulled me into a quiet kitchen. We were standing ridiculously close by the fridge because there was no room. He wasn't saying anything groundbreaking, just asking if I wanted to share an iced coffee, but the way he looked at me made my entire chest tighten. When he reached out to move a stray hair out of my face, his fingers brushed my neck and I got that intense, dizzy rush of adrenaline. I wanted so badly for him to kiss me that it felt physically heavy. Right as he leaned in, my phone started buzzing loudly on the counter and the noise woke me up. I felt this ridiculous wave of longing the second I opened my eyes.
