Chasing Maya on a Subway from the Coffee Shop

I was late for the coffee shop where I work, sprinting down the hallway of our office building, but every door I tried opened onto a different floor. Finally I burst into the kitchen, out of breath, and saw Maya from my marketing class standing by the espresso machine, smiling like she’d just seen me. I tried to ask her about the new project, but the coffee pot was empty and the lights flickered. She handed me a cup without saying a word, and as I took a sip, the steam turned into a hallway that stretched forever. I turned around to leave, but the exit was a subway platform I’d never seen, and the train was already pulling away. I chased it, but my shoes were stuck in mud. Maya called my name, her voice echoing, and I woke up just as the train disappeared.
