Cubicles Turning Into the Hallway of My Apartment

I was at the office after hours, except the cubicles kept turning into the hallway of my old apartment building. I was looking for a manila folder someone said I had to sign before morning, but every drawer I opened had someone else’s mail. My manager was there, only it was also my neighbor from downstairs, same face somehow. He kept asking if I’d seen who left the lights on in conference room B. I walked toward it and the corridor stretched, fluorescent tubes buzzing. I could hear a phone ringing behind a door that used to be my kitchen. When I finally got the handle to turn, the room was empty except for my coat on a chair, pockets inside out. I felt like I’d interrupted something and shouldn’t be there. I tried to leave the way I came and the elevator buttons were all unlabeled. Mild dread, like I’d missed a step and someone was waiting for me to notice.
