I woke up feeling panicked because in the dream I was standing in the hallway of my apartment building, but it stretched on forever. The doors on either side were all the same, each labeled with a different floor number that didn't exist. I was late for work and needed to hand in a report, yet I couldn't find the elevator. Every time I thought I saw the right door, a neighbor I hadn't seen in years—Mike from high school—was standing there, holding a police badge and asking me why I hadn't called the precinct about a missing cat. I tried to explain I was just trying to get to the office, but the hallway kept looping back to the lobby, where a security guard was counting my keys, which were nowhere to be found. I could hear the ticking of a clock that was getting louder, and I kept hearing the distant siren of an ambulance, but I never reached the office before the alarm went off.
