I woke up late for work and rushed out of the apartment, but the hallway in my building stretched on forever. I could see the lobby at the far end, then a grocery store, then my office lobby, all merged into one endless corridor. I was wearing a sundress I hadn't bought yet, and I could hear my ex‑girlfriend's laugh echoing from a coffee shop that shouldn't have been there. I tried to call her, but my phone was stuck in my pocket and wouldn't come out. When I finally reached the office, the receptionist was my old college roommate, and she handed me a stack of papers titled "Our Future Plans". I opened one and saw a photo of us holding hands at a beach we never visited.
