I woke up thinking about the coffee shop on Main Street. In the dream I was late for work, sprinting down the hallway of my office building, but the hallway kept stretching forever. I finally burst into the conference room, still in my pajamas, and everyone was already seated. My boss glanced at me, then turned his attention to Maya, the woman I used to date in college who now works in marketing. She was laughing at something my boss said, and I felt a strange mix of jealousy and relief. Suddenly the room shifted into my apartment kitchen, and Maya was there, cooking dinner for me, smiling like we were still together. I tried to leave, but the front door was locked and the keys were missing. I woke up in my own bed, heart pounding, wondering why I felt both guilty and oddly safe.
