Hunting for the Moving Cereal Aisle After Work

I was at the grocery store after work, still in my office clothes, hunting for the cereal aisle that kept moving. Every time I turned a corner it was produce again. I ran into Maya from accounting—except she also felt a bit like my college roommate, same laugh. She was holding my phone, which I somehow didn’t have. We stood too close by the frozen food, and I kept thinking I should say something normal about the meeting tomorrow, but I just noticed her necklace. The store lights were the same as the hallway at my old apartment. I felt that stupid flutter in my chest and also worried I’d miss the bus. She asked if I wanted to share an Uber because it was raining, which it wasn’t. I said yes too fast and then couldn’t find the exit. Woke up embarrassed I’d been that obvious.
