I dreamed I was late for work again, standing at the bus stop by the grocery store, except the sky was this gray-orange like after a fire and everyone had those cheap paper masks from the pharmacy. My phone kept saying the 7:15 was coming, but the street was empty except for a few neighbors dragging shopping carts of bottled water. I ran toward the office, but my legs felt heavy like in wet snow, and when I got there it was my old high school mixed with the cubicles. Mrs. Patel from accounting was also my homeroom teacher, telling me the generator room was on the third floor now. I kept looking for the stairwell that used to be by the copier. Felt embarrassed I wasn't wearing the right badge, just my hoodie. Outside the windows the parking lot was full of abandoned cars with dust on them. I found my desk but the computer only showed a looping message about air quality. Woke up anxious I'd missed the meeting.
