I was back working my old shift at the library, except it was located inside this massive interstellar transit cruiser heading to some outer colony. The whole place had these huge curved observation windows where you could see purple nebulae drifting by, but I couldn't look because my old manager, Brenda, was breathing down my neck about missing paperwork. I kept trying to board the shuttle to dock with the flag admiral's fleet for a routine equipment audit, but my access lanyard was expired. My high school friend Mark showed up in full formal bridge uniform, looking completely exhausted, and told me they were jumping to hyper-drive in five minutes and I'd be stuck in the cargo ring for three years if I didn't find my badge. I was tearing through my nylon backpack, pulling out old grocery receipts and tangled headphones, utterly panicked because I knew I forgot to feed my cat back home before departure.
