I was back at my old middle school, trying to find the band room to return a textbook, but the main hallway just kept extending way further than it ever did in real life. I noticed a heavy green metal door behind the lockers that I'd never seen before, cracked slightly open. When I pushed it, I ended up inside this huge, dusty network of forgotten rooms that seemed to run beneath the gym. My friend Marcus from high school was suddenly there with me, holding a phone flashlight. We climbed down a short flight of concrete stairs into what looked like a vintage staff lounge, complete with orange vinyl chairs, old magazines from the eighties, and a narrow breezeway leading into an overgrown outdoor courtyard enclosed by tall brick walls. We kept creeping further in, feeling like we definitely shouldn't be there, but we were both too excited to turn back. Right as we tried the door to another sub-basement, a bell rang and woke me up.
