I woke up late for work and rushed out of the apartment, but when I got to the office building the lobby was a coffee shop I used to hang out at in college. I was still in my pajamas, and the barista—who looked exactly like my old roommate Alex—smiled at me and asked, "You look like you need a latte." I tried to explain I was late for a meeting, but the words came out as a jumbled apology. Suddenly the elevators were stairs that went on forever, and each floor I reached was a different department I’d never worked in. At the top, there was a conference room, but instead of a projector screen there was a mirror reflecting me in a suit I hadn't tried on yet. My boss walked in, but his face was a blend of my college professor and the guy I used to have a crush on in high school. He said, "You finally showed up," and I felt a weird mix of embarrassment and a warm flutter, like he was proud and also... attracted. Then I woke up, heart still racing.
