I was walking back to my apartment after grocery shopping, but the front door was painted bright yellow instead of dark green. When I went inside, my key worked, but the layout was slightly mirrored and my old roommate Marcus was sitting on the couch. Only in the dream, Marcus was actually married to my current partner, Sarah, and they both acted completely casual about it, asking me how work went at the clinic. I felt this creeping wave of panic because I knew I was an accountant, but my jacket had a nurse's name tag on it with my photo. I pulled out my phone to check my messages, but all my contacts had slightly different last names, and my own contact card said I had lived in this mirrored apartment for six years. I didn't want to say anything out loud because I was terrified they would realize I didn't belong in that version of my life.
