Wallet Gone in Looping Aisles Behind the Bakery

I was at the grocery store near my place, just grabbing milk after work, and I realized my wallet wasn’t in my bag. I kept retracing the aisles but they looped back on themselves. This guy kept appearing at the end of each one—looked like Dave from my old job, but also like the neighbor downstairs, same jacket. I wanted to tell someone my wallet was gone, maybe stolen, but I couldn’t find a manager, only a hallway behind the bakery that stretched way farther than it should. I felt this mild dread that they’d think I took something because my bag was unzipped. Then I was suddenly outside trying to catch the bus home, still searching my pockets, late, and the store lights were still on behind me like I hadn’t left.
