Secret Concrete Staircase Under the Stairs

Secret Concrete Staircase Under the Stairs

I was back visiting my parents' house, but when I opened the door under the stairs where we used to keep the vacuum, there was a concrete staircase heading down. I knew I should have helped my mom carry in the groceries, but I just had this overwhelming urge to see where it went. At the bottom, it opened into an enormous, dimly lit basement that felt like a mix between my old middle school hallway and an underground subway concourse. I spent what felt like hours walking through it, turning down empty corridors lined with old metal lockers, half-expecting a security guard to yell at me. Around one corner, there was a set of glass double doors showing a sunlit courtyard with trees I didn't recognize. I pushed on the push-bar to go outside, but my phone started buzzing loudly in my pocket with a text from my dad asking where I was, and that's when I woke up.
