Ex Standing by the Cereal in the Grocery Store

I was in the grocery store by my apartment but the aisles were the hallways from my old office. I kept trying to find the checkout because I was supposed to meet someone for coffee after, and I was already late. Then I saw my ex from last year standing by the cereal, except he also felt like this guy from work I barely talk to. We started walking together and I was trying to act normal, like I wasn’t still thinking about the last time we texted. He asked if I wanted to grab dinner and I said yes too fast, then realized I was wearing pajama pants. The store doors opened onto the subway platform. We ran for a train that wouldn’t quite arrive, and I felt this mix of embarrassment and hope, like maybe this time it would work. I woke up still half-waiting for him to take my hand.
