Grocery Store Aisles Become High School Hallway

I was at the grocery store by my apartment, but the aisles kept turning into the hallway of my old high school. I was looking for my sister because she’d texted that she was waiting by the deli, except when I got there it was the principal’s office. A woman behind the counter looked like my coworker Maya and also like my tenth-grade English teacher. She kept asking if I had the envelope. I didn’t know what envelope. I checked my pockets and found my house keys, then they were a library card with someone else’s name. People were lining up behind me like I’d cut in. I kept saying I just needed to find her. The fluorescent lights hummed and the floor felt slightly sticky. When I finally pushed through a swinging door it opened onto my living room at night, TV on mute. My sister was on the couch, not looking at me, and I had this sinking feeling I’d missed something important she already told me twice.
