Old Manager Asked If I Still Had the Envelope

I was late leaving for work and couldn't find my phone. I kept checking the kitchen counter, then my bag, then the same counter again. The apartment felt like my place mixed with the building I used to live in after college. The hallway was longer than it should be and the numbers on the doors didn't match. Someone I thought was my neighbor was standing at the far end, but when I got closer it was my old manager from the warehouse job. He asked if I still had the envelope. I didn't know what envelope. I tried to go back inside but my key wouldn't turn. My phone started buzzing in another room I couldn't find. I ran toward the stairs and barely moved. When I finally got to the lobby, the front door was open onto the parking lot at my current office. A car was idling with the lights off. I woke up with that tight chest feeling like I'd forgotten something important.
