I woke up late for work and sprinted down the hallway of my apartment building, but the hallway kept stretching—doors I’d never seen appeared on both sides. I finally burst out onto the street and realized I was still in my pajamas. I ran to the office, only to find the lobby turned into the grocery store from my old neighborhood. The clerk, who looked exactly like my high school math teacher, handed me a receipt for a bag of groceries I didn’t remember buying. While I was trying to figure it out, a security guard stopped me, flashing a badge that said “Detective.” He asked if I’d seen a missing wallet, describing it as a black leather one with my name on it. I panicked, because I knew I’d left my actual wallet at home. The guard’s face flickered, briefly becoming my brother’s, then back to the guard. I woke up just as I was about to hand him a set of keys I didn’t have.
